A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear SLVHS Families:
Last Saturday, we celebrated with SLV community members, students, staff and alumni. It was a beautiful and breezy day featuring the official ribbon cutting for the Performing Arts Center and non-stop student performances from Concert Band, Choir, MS Drama and our upcoming HS musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie. Students provided informative backstage tours while friends of our supportive Visual & Performing Arts community visited with each other. In the evening, student rock band Navigator Down opened for our soulful and talented SLV alumni, Taylor Rae and the Coffis Brothers and the Mountain Men. Through our “Patron of the Arts” campaign and the ticket sales donated by our bands, we were able to raise nearly $5,000 in one day, all to support K-12 VAPA programs. A very special THANK YOU to all who came out to celebrate and our new Patrons of the Arts, and especially, our alumni who shared their artistry and passion for music and creativity!
This week, our Boy’s Basketball team reached the first round of CCS play-offs, the first time since 2007! And our Wrestling team sent David Jensen, Jeremiah Aguirre, Dominic Aguirre, Wyatt Atchley and Jed Kraft to the first round of CCS matches. Congratulations to all of our scholar-athletes.
Last week, I included a letter from Dr. Laurie Bruton describing our District’s 1:1 laptop initiative. I’ve included it here again below the calendar items along with a FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions handout that will help answer some of your questions. You can also check out our new website and read about the initiative: https://sites.google.com/a/
I invite you to attend the 5th Annual SLVHS & Coast Redwood Grad Night Fundraiser: Indulgences (featuring local wines, chocolates and great auction items). I will be in Sacramento with our local Region 5 Educator of the Year, Doug Morris, as he receives formal recognition among all of the state’s Educators of the Year.
Thank you all for your continued support!
Karen van Putten, Principal

BOARDWALK – WHITING FOODS PROMO
We have a rare promotion happening right now that I wanted to make you aware of. If a student applies by 3/15 and is hired and assigned a start day before 4/1 (this means assigned an orientation/start date, not necessarily before 4/1) they will go into our drawing in April for $500! For any of your students that are current Crew Members, they will get rewarded with double Crew Search for their recruiting efforts. If their referral is hired, they will receive $100 for each referral (instead of $50).
MECHANICS TRAINING PROGRAM
This is for students who are interested in automobiles, race cars, or the motorsports industry in general. Our program serves to provide our students valuable hands-on experience repairing and maintaining our fleet of open-wheel racecars alongside our team of professional technicians, many of which have come to us from all forms and levels of professional motorsports. For young people looking for an entry level position in a professional racing organization, relevant experience is hard to come by. Our program can help with that and we have multitudes of graduates who have used our program as a gateway into a professional motorsports career.
Please check out their website https://

The District has created a website where all of the approved flyers will be posted (Community Opportunity).
