Greetings Junior parents and students,
Hoping you will skim this and take in any info that applies to you or your student.
Here’s a few happenings and updates during this busy time of year:
May 1 – 12: AP Exams each day. Good luck juniors who are taking them. Study hard this weekend, eat healthy and get plenty of rest.
May 16 –20: Math CAASPP testing in junior social studies classes.
College Admissions Tests: If you are planning to apply to a 4-year college, SAT or ACT exams should be taken before the end of this semester. Students can then retest next fall.

Summer School options:
Next week I am meeting with all students who need or would benefit from summer school. If parents feel there is a need, please don’t hesitate to email me and/or send your student to see me for a summer school referral. I will email each parent after I meet with student.
Also please encourage your student to improve any current grades under a “C” for 4 year college eligibility.
SLVUSD is offering summer school at SLVHS this year. We are hoping to offer Math 1,2, and 3, PE and an online credit recovery class for other subjects.
Students also have the option of attending summer school through the County Office of Education. Most of these offerings are Independent Studies located at the SC Community School at Highlands Park.
Enrollment requires 2 steps:
1) An online Counselor Referral
2) Parent online registration from the form we provide to your student after completing counselor referral.
Interested in summer jobs?
Job Board: Check out local listings on the board in the Counseling Office. See Charlotte for details and/or follow-up.
Work Permits: Students under 18 years need a work permit. Once hired, students see Charlotte in the Counseling Office to get an “Intent to work form” to take to their prospective employer to complete, along with your signature as parent/guardian. This form then needs to be returned to Charlotte so that she can issue the official work permit.
Summer enrichment programs: Find Summer Programs here: https://sites.google.com/a/slvusd.org/slvhsjobs/summer-programs
Summer or Fall enrichment at Cabrillo College: Free tuition and plenty of opportunities. If interested, go to this link for high school students wanting to take a summer class or classes during the school year: http://www.cabrillo.edu/services/outreach/hsstudents.html
High school students need to complete an online application and Orientation and submit to the Admissions Office the Concurrent Enrollment form (signed by me and you as parents/guardian) before the registration date (May 5 for summer and June 5 for fall).
Cabrillo waives tuition fees for high school students so the cost is $75 in fees and the price of books and materials. Such a deal!!
Juniors and families, hang in there during this stressful time. We are on the final stretch.
