Senior Awards are next Thursday, May 25th at 6:30 pm in the HS Gym
Please plan on arriving at 6:20 as we will be starting the ceremony promptly at 6:30 and parking will fill up fast.
Students will be sitting in the chairs in the center and family member seating will be in the bleachers on either side of the gym. This setup is designed for students to make their way to the stage more safely and more quickly. And a safer and shorter program is a win for everybody.
If a senior is receiving an award or a scholarship, he or she should have received an email from Charlotte Achen and an official invitation to the event was also mailed home. This should be a great night. See you there.
Undergraduate Awards are Friday, May 26 from 8:50 am to 11:20 am in the Gym
Our Awards for Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will take place Friday morning in the High School Gym.
Freshmen Awards will begin at 8:50 and run until 9:40 am.
Sophomore Awards will begin at 10:10 am and run until 11:00 am.
Junior Awards will begin at 11:20 am and run until 12:10 pm.
All students receiving an award had an invitation for parents mailed home last week.

A Message from the SLVUSD School Nurse on Norovirus
The Santa Cruz County school nurses met this week with the public health officer for Santa Cruz County about the Norovirus outbreak. Although we did have an outbreak in our valley, it was not our students who were at the camp at that time.
It has been recommended that we send any student with stomach pain, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea home and require 48 hours symptom-free before returning to school.
Norovirus in a healthy adult lasts 1-3 days, causing vomiting, diarrhea, and sometimes fever. Often people think it’s food poisoning and the biggest risk is dehydration. There are over 1,200 cases in Yolo County schools, and 200 cases San Jose schools. We currently do not have any known cases in our schools and would like to keep it that way.
Please keep your child home if he or she is displaying these symptoms.
Spring Athletics Physicals at SLVHS coming Wednesday, May 24
Attention all incoming freshmen and returning high school student athletes. The governing body of high school athletics in the state of California, the CIF, requires that all athletes participating in after school athletics have a current physical (not more than 12 months old) on file with their high school to be eligible to practice and compete.
On Wednesday, May 24th beginning at 4:00 pm, SLVHS will offer the opportunity for all incoming freshmen and returning student athletes to satisfy this requirement for the 2017-2018 school year. There is a suggested $20.00 cash or check donation for the service (checks made out to SLVHS)
In order to participate in the Spring Physical Event, please go to the link below and print and completely fill out all the forms listed under the Student Athlete Packet PRIOR TO ARRIVING AT 4:00 ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 24TH. Note that on the CIF Physical Form you are to complete page one (History Form) and the emergency information section of page three (Clearance Form). Football players don’t forget the Football Specific Zero Tolerance Policy form.
ARRIVING AT THE SPRING PHYSICAL EVENT WITHOUT ALL THE FORMS IN THE STUDENT ATHLETE PACKET COMPLETED WILL CAUSE DELAY.
Coaches will be on hand to discuss the upcoming season and tryout/practice schedules.
Please email SLVHS AD Chris Coulson if you have any questions (firstname.lastname@example.org).

2016-17 SLV High School Parent Survey
Below is a link to the annual SLVHS Parent Survey.
Please take a few minutes to give us your feedback.
What you have to say is important to us.
We do discuss the results and use them to plan for next year.
As a parent who has filled out many of these surveys, I made some changes this year in order to shorten the time it takes you to fill it out, as the surveys have been a bit lengthy in the past.
We look forward to seeing what our parents have to say about our High School.
Hello, SLVHS Parents!
Grad Night is getting close and it has been a long-standing tradition at SLVHS that the parents of the Junior Class head up staffing on the actual night. This is for two reasons. First and foremost, this way we get a good look at what goes on and begin to get ideas about what we may do for our kids next year. Secondly, this way the Graduates, for the most part, don’t have their own parents around on their celebration night. If you are a parent of Sophomores or Freshman, we encourage you to sign up as well and get an early look at this fun event.
Please take a look at the Sign-Up and see what job might appeal to you.
The sooner you sign-up the better choice you will have, so get in early.
Looking forward to working with you,
Andrea Yanowitz, Grad Night Volunteer Coordinator
Senior Parents – We have 33 of 36 volunteer spots filled – NEED 9 More!
May 23 – 25 SLVHS Multi-Purpose Room – Financial Literacy Simulation
We need THREE more parent volunteers for the Bite of Reality financial simulator. This event for HS Seniors will be a real-life exercise in managing their own finances after they graduate in June. Volunteers will be needed at different stations that students visit. No training needed beforehand, instructions will be given each day. Lunch will be provided each day for all volunteers. Without our volunteers, we will not have enough people for this real-life financial education experience to happen!
