The school year is in full gear and I am meeting with all junior social studies classes this week to talk to juniors about career and college options and opportunities. There is a lot of information as we move into the second half of high school and begin to figure out next steps towards possible career and college goals.
I will be following these presentations with individual junior meetings with each junior to check in and focus on each student’s particular needs. Parents are welcome to attend or schedule follow up meetings. Feel free to call Jeannette so she can schedule a time for you. I should warn you that these meetings will continue over the next 2 months.
I also encourage you to take advantage of the many college and career educational opportunities provided for students and parents.
Here’s just a few:
Tomorrow Night, Wednesday, September 26th: How to Pay for College Night
6:30 PM in the MPR with Steve Shapiro
October 10th: PSAT Testing for 10th and 11th Graders $20 cost for Juniors. Make check payable to SLVHS. Annina is taking sign ups in the main office.
October 29th, Monday, 6-8 PM: Cabrillo College & Career Night: One stop shopping for all your college and career needs; check out Cabrillo’s Welcome Center, chat with over 60 different college and university admission representatives, learn about Cabrillo’s programs and career education programs.
These are my top recommendations for fall college and career activities. I also want to remind students that this week is the last week of the first grading period. Teachers are required to have all grades updated and we will declare eligibility for sports and play next Wednesday. Make sure you have caught up and turned in any late work and done test corrections.
Hang in there, juniors. You are off to a terrific start of your junior year.
