The Special Education program is designed to assist students with a variety of disabilities. Students are eligible for this program through identification by teacher, or parent and undergo a variety of testing to see if they meet minimum qualification for inclusion in to this program. Once they have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) in place they will receive services directly from their Special Education case manager and within the regular classrooms.

Resource Specialist Program (R.S.P.):
San Lorenzo Valley High School’s Resource Specialist Program provides support to students with Individualized Educational Plans (IEP’s). Several levels of support are available: academic support through consultation; academic support through Directed Study, Team taught English & Math classes, Instructional Assistant supported mainstream classes, and RSP English classes. Directed Studies classes offer assistance in organizing projects, completing assignments, and managing the demands of the mainstream high school program. Resource staff members consult with general education teachers regularly to give students the best opportunity to succeed. Staff has access to all students’ records and can provide up-to-date progress reports. Staff is made aware of student accommodations/modifications through Power Teacher. Students have access to the RSP/SDC staff throughout the school-day. The Resource Specialist handles case management of the RSP students, academic achievement testing and IEP meetings.
Special Day Class:
Special Day Class (SDC) at San Lorenzo Valley High School is an inclusion-based program where students work towards appropriate academic goals. All students in the program have IEP’s and often need academic support for the majority of their school day. San Lorenzo Valley High School’s SDC program has a very diverse population with a wide range of disabilities. Each SDC student has the opportunity to “mainstream” in regular curriculum classes which are based on state standards. The SDC teacher collaborates with the regular education teacher to insure success for every student. According to the severity of the student’s disabilities, many students are on “diploma track”, taking classes required for graduation at San Lorenzo Valley High School, while others are working towards a Certificate of Completion.
Other Special Education services such as Speech, Occupational Therapy, and Workability for transition to post-secondary placement are often made available for students who qualify for those services.
