free books

Free Online Books using MyOn Digital Library

From December 1, 2021, to January 31, 2022, any California student can benefit from access to thousands of myON books in English and Spanish. Students can easily browse or search the digital library to find books to match their interests and grade level. There are also options for students to read books online or offline, even in low-bandwidth environments.

Go to: www.myon.com and click on the purple myON Login button:

myon login graphic

Enter the following information on the login screen:

myon login screen

Click the green Sign In button, select a book from the Library or an article from News, and start reading!

Having looked at the website - once you get in, the best place to start for fiction is the Genres button on the top middle.

Then you can click what type of books you want to download. The books are listed by age level. So when you open up Genres and pick one, you will see little kid books.  Keep scrolling down, through the middle school books, and the ones at the bottom are more high school books.  That said, there is nothing wrong with reading little kid books or middle school books. They also have a ton of graphic novels that tend to be located between the middle and high school books.

jazz

SLVHS Jazz Band Club

There's a New Club at SLVHS: Jazz Band!

Meeting Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:20 am - 7:50 am at Room MS-25 (high school/middle school band room).

There will be concerts planned for the next semester. Exact dates to be decided.

Description of Club:

The SLVHS Jazz Band focuses on rehearsing small ensemble jazz compositions in order to perform at various events. The meeting times before school are for group rehearsal. Members should commit to practicing pieces on their own in addition to rehearsals if needed. Join us in having fun playing jazz music!

Requirements:

You must already know how to play an instrument of your choice at an intermediate level. Jazz compositions are more flexible than traditional compositions, so guitar, bass, drum set, and piano are all options in addition to any traditional band instruments. You also have to know how to read music. Improvisation skills are not required. If you have any questions about these requirements or for exceptions, please email Joshua Gabrielson at [email protected] or Ms. Liston at [email protected]

SLV Middle School Musical - Final Shows this Weekend

Get your tickets for Dear Edwina Jr., which is based on the original New York production of Dear Edwina, with music by Zina Goldrich and book & lyrics by Marcy Heisler. This 1-hour musical is directed by Tara McMilin, with music and vocal direction by Nicki Kerns and choreography by Mikaela Ballmer, and is presented at the SLV Performing Arts Center. The story follows the adventures of plucky advice-giver-extraordinaire, Edwina Spoonapple, as she directs the neighborhood kids in a series of buoyant production numbers for the latest edition of her weekly "Advice-a-Palooza.” Edwina and her friends share wisdom on everything from trying new foods to making new friends, through clever, catchy and poignant songs.
