Students will be going to see the SLVHS talent show on Friday in one of their classes.

Free At-Home Antigen Tests handed out tomorrow - Please use them on April 10 before returning from Spring Break

We want to inform all of our families that the State will be providing a free At-Home Antigen Test for every student.  We will hand these out at the end of the day on Monday March 28th.  Please check with your student when they get home to secure the test for the right time.  The goal is to allow each student to be screened with a COVID test on Sunday, April 10, 2022 prior to the return to school on Monday following Spring Break.  Although this is not required, we highly recommend that each family use the antigen test to test each school-age child prior to their return to school on Monday, April 11, 2022.  Screening each student with a COVID test prior to the return to school will help to mitigate further exposures.  As we know many will be traveling over the break, we appreciate this extra precaution SLV families can take to ensure our schools continue to stay open for our students and families.  We hope everyone has a wonderful Spring Break.

SLVHS Band takes Silver at a Competition in Los Angeles

Congratulations to the SLVHS Band for their performance in a competition in Los Angeles and winning a Silver Award for excellence.

Our Cougars completed with bands from across the state. And they got to go to Disneyland!

Thanks to our Band director and teacher, Carey Liston for working hard to provide this opportunity for our students.

Teen Talk High School Sexuality Education Course in PE Classes

We are pleased to inform you that your child will have the opportunity to participate in the Teen Talk High School course in their Physical Education class beginning on Monday April 11, 2022. Teen Talk High School is a comprehensive sexuality education program developed by trained professionals in the field of sexuality education at Health Connected (www.health-connected.org)

Teen Talk High School is a comprehensive sexuality education course, designed to provide an open forum for teenagers to ask questions and get medically-based, unbiased, and accurate information. Teen Talk High School complies with California Education Codes 51930-51939 (California Healthy Youth Act of 2015) and meets the California Health Education Content Standards under “Growth, Development and Sexual Health.”

Teen Talk High School covers the following topics:

• Values Clarification
• Sexual and Reproductive Anatomy
• Abstinence/Not Having Sex
• Parent/Guardian Communication 
• BE PREPARED FOR A HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT WHICH INVOLVES YOUR CHILD DISCUSSING THESE ISSUES WITH YOU
• Healthy Relationships
• Birth Control, including a condom demonstration
• Pregnancy Options
• Sexually Transmitted Infections, including HIV
• Sexual Safety, Consent, and the Law
• Sexual Identity & Gender
• Sex in the Media
• Communication and Decision-Making

A pre/post-assessment will be administered at the beginning and end of the course. The assessment covers sexual health knowledge that will be covered during the course as well as questions about student comfort and confidence in communicating about sexual health topics with peers, partners, and trusted adults. You can examine instructional materials, including assessments, at the school office. If you have questions, please see your child’s teacher or principal. State law allows you to remove your student from any portion of a comprehensive sexual health education course.

If you do not want your student to participate in this sexual health course, please give a note to your student’s Physical Education teacher by Friday, April 1, 2022. The goal of a comprehensive sexual health education program is to help students learn the facts and to make good decisions now, and later in life.

It's Time to Pay for your AP Exam

Cost is $96 per exam at the regular rate and $53 per exam at the reduced rate. 

You qualify for the reduced rate if you are approved for the Free/Reduced Lunch program.

Webinar: The Role of Parents and Teachers in Helping Kids Cope with COVID and Developing Healthy Tech Use Habits

Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.

The pandemic has increased the amount of technology usage and screen time for our children and young adults. This session will focus on stress management for students, positive digital citizenship and how to influence positive online behavior. To help build trust and develop positive online behaviors, we will be discussing how to recognize the signs of the negative impact of technology and how to respond when there is too much digital media use.

Monday, April 11th is a SCHOOL DAY

Please note the state department of education has indicated that we will need to make up the evacuation day on October 25th and indicated we need to use our Storm Day, April 11th that is built into our calendar as a replacement day.  Monday, April 11th will be an ERA early out A Day.

Spring Break is April 4^th through April 8^th.  Please note that Monday, April 11^th will be changed from a non-instructional day “Storm Day” to an instructional day to make-up for the school closure we had on October 25^th due to required evacuations.

SLVHS Cougar Closet - Now in the Counseling Office

SLVUSD has partnered with Inspire Diagnostics to offer an outdoor walk-up PCR testing site, open to the entire school community, at the District Office, 325 Marian Ave, Ben Lomond, CA. It will be open starting March 7, 2022 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (excluding holidays) from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

The site is available for symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals, and most test results are returned within 24-hours — comparatively, faster than most alternatives. Students and their families, and staff and their families are welcome to utilize this free service. Those needing a test simply need to fill out the registration one time at http://sccoe.link/inspiresc and can go to any site Inspire Diagnostics. No appointment is required.

Our weekly and exposure testing will continue at the school sites for students and staff.

Mask Mandate Information

The mandate for our schools to have students and staff wear masks at a school will end at 11:59 pm today, Friday, March 11th.

Monday, March 14th will be the first school day this year that wearing a mask at school will be optional for students and staff.

The mask mandate was something that has been required for schools. 

While the CDPH still strongly recommends the wearing of masks inside, after March 11th, it will no longer be required. 

As this will now be a personal choice for each individual, we ask that people go out of their way to be respectful of that choice.

If you choose to wear a mask, please respect the choice of those who don't.  

If you choose not to wear a mask, please respect the choice of those who do.

Everybody's situation is different, and let's give everyone the respect we would all like to receive.
