PROGRAMS WE SUPPORT
College and Career Preparation (in collaboration with Charlotte Achen, College and Career Specialist)
- Bus trips for all four grades to local colleges
- Career day
- College essay writing workshops
- College financial aid workshops for parents
Classroom support
- Provide financial support for specific items requested by the Principal or teachers that facilitate student learning (e.g. Chromebooks, cameras for photography classes)
- Provide snacks for required state testing
Educational movies or workshops – on topics that are important for student wellbeing but fall outside the standard curriculum. Recent examples include:
- Movies on gender stereotypes
- Workshops on financial responsibility/planning
- Workshops on sexual safety
Awards to recognize students and teachers who contribute to the SLVHS and broader community
- Presidential service and senior service awards
- Teacher appreciation lunch
The specific activities supported each year depend on interest, the amount of money raised from donations and other fundraisers, and the willingness of parents to organize and volunteer for activities. We welcome suggestions for new programs or academic supplies that fall within our general mission.
HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT OUR PROGRAMS FOR YOUR CHILDREN
Attend our meetings. The Cougar Club meets the first Thursday of the month from 7:00-8:30 in the staff room next to the office.
Join the Cougar Club Facebook page for your child’s class(es) to keep up to date on our activities. Just search “Cougar Parents Club Class of 20##” on Facebook.
Donate to the Cougar Parent Club. You can make a tax-deductible donation to the Cougar Club via Paypal or Venmo to [email protected]. Or, you can write a check to “SLVHS Cougar Club” and leave it in the school office. Generous donors have agreed to match up to $5000 in donations between 8/1-12/31/19.
Support SLVHS when you shop online or in person by using the Benefit Phone App of escrip. You can use it to purchase items from over 200 retailers such as Amazon, eBay, Kmart, CVS, Safeway, Home Depot, and most major airlines and they will donate 2-10% of your purchase to SLVHS. Download the Benefit app. Select SLV High School Cougar Club as your beneficiary and link your credit card or bank account. Then you purchase gift cards for the amount of your choice for any of the retailers on the list and use those to make your purchases. This past year we raised about $250 with only six people using the app. We could raise so much more if more people would use it.
Use gift cards at Wild Roots Market. When you shop at Wild Roots Market in Felton or Boulder Creek, purchase a gift card at the checkout counter and tell them you would like to support SLV High School (code #701). Wild Roots Markets will donate 4% of your purchase on cards <$100 and 5% on gift cards of $100 or more. Once you have a card, you can easily add money to it.
