Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the best things in our lives.
It's also a good time to get your missing assignments done and ready to turn in to your teachers when you come back!

The SLVHS Graphic Design classes have created a 2020 calendar featuring original line art illustrations by the students in the class.
This would look great on your wall or wrapped up as a Holiday gift for a friend or loved one.
All net proceeds from sales of the calendar will be donated to a local charity for the unsheltered.

Senior Class Graduation Information Meeting Next Wednesday
Next Wednesday at 11:45 in the HS Gym, the Senior Class will have a meeting to get information about ordering Caps and Gowns for graduation, as well as other issues related to Graduation. Yes, it is slowly becoming real! Graduation will be here before you know.
Presidential Inauguration 2021
Our school will be joining thousands of students nationwide to participate in the Close Up Foundation’s week-long Presidential Inauguration program in Washington, DC. We will be attending the program January 16-22, 2021. The cost is $2,865.
Your student will have the opportunity to:
- Witness the Presidential Inauguration on the national mall and attend a student Inaugural Ball.
- Meet students from all over the country and make new friends
- Experience D.C: monuments, memorials, museums, neighborhoods, and some hidden gems.
- Participate in simulation and debates on key issues
- Visit Capitol Hill for Walking Workshop

High School Students wanted for County-Wide Environmental Action Summit
Call for student applications! Do you want to join a team of students who will work to bring our community together for an Environmental Action Summit?
Apply now! Be a part of the County Office of Education’s Youth Leadership Team for Sustainability and Environmental Justice and help plan Santa Cruz County’s first Environmental Action Summit.
Who can apply? Youth ages 13-18 from Santa Cruz County who are working to improve the environment and have a positive impact in our communities. Applicants will be selected to form a team that represents different regions, perspectives, backgrounds, and communities across the county.
Expectations:
Attend the Kick-Off Planning Day on Saturday, December 14, 10:00am-2:00pm at the County Office of Education in Santa Cruz
Attend monthly planning meetings January-April (dates and times to be determined by the team during the Kick-Off Planning Day)
Participate in work teams to help organize, promote and lead the Summit event on April 17 (tentative date).

SLVHS Toy Drive for Valley Churches United
Each year the SLV High School Chapters of the National Honor Society & the California Scholarship Federation organize a toy drive for Valley Churches United. Any student can contribute to the toy drive and any donations can be brought to the counseling office. All donations will be greatly appreciated by the children in our valley. The last day for donations is December 3rd.
Italian Exchange Students Looking for Host Families
High School students from Italy will be coming to our area in January for the second semester.
They’re eager to become part of an American family, experience high school life, and make a life-long friendship between families.

Need Someone to Talk to? California Launches Mental Health Hotline for Calls or Instant Messaging
California residents in need of non-emergency emotional help can now call or instant message people at a hotline that debuted statewide Monday, just ahead of World Mental Health Day. The California Peer-Run Warm Line, available at 1-855-845-7415, will be staffed for most of the day to start. It's deliberately called a "warm line" because it's supposed to arrange for help before the situation raises to a "hotline" level.
The free service offers non-emergency emotional support and referrals to anyone who calls or messages the number 1-855-845-7415. It will be staffed 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays, and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays. The goal is to have 24/7 service by the end of the year.
No Cell Phone Use During Class Periods
Not in the Classroom. Not in the Halls. Not in Your Car. Not in a Tree. Turn it Off and Let it Be
The SLVHS cell phone policy is to have phones powered down and in backpacks at all times except for brunch and lunch. Many students are using their phones in classrooms and in the hallways.
If administrators or campus supervisors see a student using a phone during instructional time, it will result in the phone being immediately confiscated and brought to the Administrative Office. Students can pick up their phones at the end of the day. Repetitive cell confiscations will warrant greater consequences. Thank you for supporting your child's learning.
Families: please do not text or call your child during the school day. If there is an emergency or you need to get a message to your child, please call the office and we will get that message to the student or bring that student up to call you. This method has worked for over 100 years and still works today. In fact, it is more reliable than a text. Thank you for working with us to make class time more productive and less stressful for students.

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we begin to have our drama performances and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.
The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. SLVHS has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.
Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.
The Community Opportunity Link is provided as a courtesy for parents and students by the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District to receive information of current local events and other student opportunities. These opportunities range from scouting, sports, arts/drama, local community events, as well as other parent resources. In an effort to reduce paper, flyers will not be sent home to students; all approved flyers will be posted to this District-created website.
