Update on California High School Sports
Like many of you, we here at the high school were waiting excitedly for December 14th when the revised CIF after-school sports calendar was to begin.
Unfortunately, last week, this was put on hold by the state of California. We expect new guidance from the California Department of Public Health after this current surge is over, but no sooner than January. We will continue to do all we can to ensure that if and when safe after-school athletics are offered, SLVHS will be ready.
A link to the state athletics press release is below.

SLVHS will offer the PSAT on Tuesday, January 26 in three areas on the Tri-Campus: HS Gym, MS Gym, and HS MPR.
This is a special offering from the College Board and, due to Santa Cruz County Public Health guidelines, we can only offer the test to 86 students.
Priority will be first given to Juniors. After that, Sophomores and Freshman will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified after January 20th if they will have a seat for the test.
Cost for the Test
The test costs $20 and checks can be mailed or brought to the SLVHS Admin Office. All students are asked to send / bring this in before January 20th.
If the test is cancelled or if you do not make it off the waitlist, your check will be voided.
If you are mailing your check, please use the following address:

Each testing location will have students placed six feet apart and all will be required to wear masks while in the testing room. Students will need to answer COVID protocol questions and have their temperature taken prior to entering the location. There will be hand sanitizer and wipes available for student use in the testing room. If on the day of the test you are exhibiting any symptoms or not feeling well, please let us know and you will be refunded.
We will also be sure to notify you prior to the test date if the test needs to be cancelled due to health restrictions and all students will be refunded in this situation.

This is an open invitation for any students who are dealing with this incredibly difficult experience. If you are interested, please contact Deborah at [email protected] for more information.
Grade Support for SLVHS Students in Semester One
The staff at SLV High School understands what a difficult semester this has been. In conjunction with what other high schools in the county are also doing, we are working to provide some kind of grade relief for our students who are truly struggling through what has been a traumatic time for us all in the San Lorenzo Valley. We have put forward an alternate grade scale for our first semester final grades. Our goal is to give hope to students who may be thinking of giving up on their grades for the semester. We want students who may be failing to see a path to passing. We want students whose grades are lower than they normally are to have a chance to earn what they want them to be. It is not a gift. Work will still be required. Final projects and Final Exams will still need to be done. There will be assignments that need to be made up. But for those who may be feeling like it's not worth it for them, our hope is that this gives our families a little hope. Not all teachers will be following this grade scale exactly. Some already use alternate grade scales. Some already offer a different type of grade relief for struggling students. Some have been working with families for months to create paths to passing their classes. And some will wait until grades are finalized to make adjustments where they feel adjustments should be made. This scale will also not apply to Advanced Placement (A.P.) courses, which are already on a different grade scale. But the sentiment is the same. We want students who are prepared to finish strong to have a chance to get where they need to be.
You have 9 days off before the next day of school. Get into Schoology. Make up the work that you can make up. Use these days as a way to make this opportunity work for you.
Grade Relief puts you closer to the finish line. You still have to do the work to get there.
A = 90 - 100 B = 80 - 89 C = 65 - 79 D = 45 - 64 F = 0 - 44
