Principal’s Message

from Jeff Calden

winter-formal.png

The 2023 Winter Formal Dance will be held at the Highlands Park Community Center next Friday, January 27th.

The dance will begin at 7:30 pm and end at 10:00 pm.

The Winter Formal Dance is for all SLVHS students. Students may decide what formal means for them.

We ask that parents of students who do not drive please pick up their child by 10:15 pm.

There are staff members volunteering their time, and we can't leave until the last student is picked up.

Tickets are $20 and will be sold on the Cougar Lawn at Lunch on Monday and Friday and at Brunch on Wednesday and Friday.

Guest Permission Slips are available in the Administration Office or a copy is attached to this email.

Guest Permission Slips are due to the Administration Office by Thursday, January 26th at 3:00 pm.

They must be complete with the signature and business card of the Principal of the High School that the guest attends.

Without these two things, the guest may not attend.  All guests must currently be enrolled in a High School.

As of now, Highlands Park can only be accessed from the Ben Lomond side of the Highway 9 slide.  It will probably be the same next Friday.

Students who live on the Felton side of the slide will need to take Glen Arbor or Zayante to Quail Hollow in order to get to the Dance.

All School Rules Apply at Dances.

Students will be searched before entering and may be breathalyzed randomly or if they appear to be under the influence.

Students who fail a breathalyzer test will not be allowed into the dance, will need to be picked up immediately by parent or guardian, and will have consequences from school and possibly from law enforcement. Students who refuse a breathalyzer test will not be allowed into the dance and must leave the premises.

We look forward to a fun and safe evening.

School Speech Contests - Multiple Contests, Multiple Chances to Win

This year, the SLV Cougar Club Speech Contest will determine which SLVHS students will move forward to the SLV Rotary Club and the Lions Club Speech Contests. The Top Two Finishers in the Cougar Club Contest will qualify for the Lions Club Contest and the Top Four Finishers will go to the Rotary Club Contest. That's three possible contests to compete for prize money. It's a great opportunity to use your skills in thinking, writing, and presenting to do something really cool, earn some money, and have something most others don't have on their applications for colleges or employment. Details in the flyer below.

Storm Days - April 10th is now officially a Storm Day Makeup - School will be in Session on that day.

Due to the first storm day when school was cancelled, Monday, April 10th is now officially a school day.

That is the first day after Spring Break. On the School Calendar, this day was labeled as a possible Storm Day makeup.

That day has now been designated as a Storm Day Makeup and there will be school. It will be an ERA Monday.

What will happen with the cancelled day and any other storm days with no school that may occur is not yet known.

Our district could have a waiver from the state approved, or we may have to make them up at some point. No need to worry about that yet.
