Principal’s Message
from Jeff Calden
The Santa Cruz Metro Drivers have reported to us that there are SLVHS students getting on the bus after school without paying.
While the Metro does not want to leave our students stranded, moving forward they will not allow students on the bus who don't pay.
Students who cannot pay the bus fare, please come to the HS Office to inquire about a free bus pass. We are happy to help you.
Students who could pay, but are jumping on for free can now walk home. We are happy to see you get some cardio work in.
For students who failed a course this year or need to raise a D to a higher grade to remain 4-year university eligible, there are two options for summer school. SLVHS offers classroom-based summer school in Math and PE, as well as other courses online. The Santa Cruz County Office of Education offers a wider variety of classroom-based and online courses during the summer as well. There are flyers for both programs attached to this email.

Congratulations to our SLVHS Art Students
Two SLVHS students had their work selected to become a part of the Santa Cruz County Office of Education's permanent art collection. Skylar Berggren and Teyah Talamante will have their work permanently on display at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education. Teyah's artwork is the oil painting of a stargazer lily. Skylar's artwork is the oil painting portrait of Justice Landes, one of our high school seniors.
At a separate show at the Santa Cruz Art League, our five AP Art students were selected to be in the show: Ruby Sartain, Maya McCabe, Justice Landes, Kajsa Johnson, and Couper Tardel. Maya McCabe's charcoal drawing of Camryn Crouch competing as a part of the Cougar track team was awarded an honorable mention in the show's competition.
Congratulations to our SLVHS artists who represented us well this year in local shows throughout the county!

What Really Happens After SLVHS?
When: Monday, May 20, 2:10-3:10 PM in the Multipurpose Room
Description: Want to know what you can expect after high school? A panel of students who recently graduated from SLV HS will share their experiences about going to college or working. They will talk about why they made the choices they did. Bring questions that you want to ask them. Students who attended this panel last year found it quite eye-opening to hear about the diversity of options available to them.
Other info: Recommended for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Co-sponsored by the Cougar Club and ASB. Snacks and extra credit from participating teachers will be provided
2019 Grad Night News - Support Our Seniors!
This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we begin to have our drama performances and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.
The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. SLVHS has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.
Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.
