Parents - if you are picking up your child after the dance, please be there by 10:15 pm at the latest.

Most of the people volunteering to chaperone the dance have been at school since the 11 am football game started - or sooner. They are all very tired and want to go home and they cannot leave until the last kiddo is picked up. winking smiley

Farmer's Market

First SLVHS Aquaponics Farmers Market Fundraiser coming Saturday, October 5th!

The SLVHS Aquaponics class will put on the first SLVHS Farmers Market in front of the school on Saturday, October 5th from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, October 5th. Students will be selling the produce they grow in our very own aquaponic greenhouse.

Items available will include lettuce, basil, mushrooms, chives, succulents, cucumbers, and more. They will be sold by our student farmers and volunteers. All proceeds will go to funding our greenhouse and program. Donations will be also accepted.

A Message from the Students of SLVHS Aquaponics:

Our Aquaponics system, which is managed and run by students, is a combination of Aquaculture (Raising fish) and Hydroponics (Growing soilless produce). Ammonia, found in the fish waste in the water, is converted to a rich nutrient by beneficial bacteria, and absorbed by the plant roots as fertilizer. Our system continuously circulates the water throughout our greenhouse without the use of soil. If you have any questions about the Farmers Market, please contact our Aquapoinics teacher Howard Meyer at [email protected].

Thank you!

Cougar Club

Please Support SLVHS Educational Programs

The Cougar Parents Club sponsors many important educational programs for the students at San Lorenzo Valley High School including college preparation and career readiness programs, college bus trips, and enrichment workshops and movies on topics such as financial responsibility and mental health awareness. The Cougar Club also funds equipment and classroom supplies. To keep these valuable programs going we need your support.

We are thrilled to announce that a couple of anonymous donors have generously offered $5000 in matching funds. We are asking each family to consider donating $20-100 (or more) and each donation will be doubled. If your employer offers donation matching, you can triple the impact of your donation! All the money goes to support programs that benefit your children.

It’s easy and tax deductible. The SLVHS Cougar Club now has non-profit status so you can donate via Paypal or Venmo to [email protected]. You can also make a donation via check or cash to the “Cougar Club”; this can be mailed to the school (7105 Highway 9, Felton 95018) or dropped off at the office. Thank you for your support.

Cougar Club Meeting with Superintendent Bruton Next Week

All parents are invited to the Cougar Parent Club Meeting next Thursday October 3 from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Multipurpose Room. During the first half of the meeting, we will be discussing past and upcoming programs; we welcome new ideas. SLVUSD Superintendent Laurie Bruton will be joining us for the second half of the meeting to share updates on some planned school renovations and to answer parent questions.

slv athletic boosters

SLVHS Athletic Boosters Needs to add Core Members for Bingo

SLVHS Athletic Boosters raises a tremendous amount of money for our students each year by hosting and working Bingo one night week at the Portuguese Hall in Santa Cruz.  That money is a major reason our sports are free for students, unlike the pay-to-play models at all other high schools in our area.

If you are interested in helping you can contact the Boosters at [email protected].

Volunteering also gives money directly to the sport of your choice at SLVHS

From bell to bell there is no cell

No Cell Phone Use During Class Periods

Not in the Classroom. Not in the Halls. Not in Your Car. Not in a Tree. Turn it Off and Let it Be

The SLVHS cell phone policy is to have phones powered down and in backpacks at all times except for brunch and lunch. Many students are using their phones in classrooms and in the hallways.

If administrators or campus supervisors see a student using a phone during instructional time, it will result in the phone being immediately confiscated and brought to the Administrative Office. Students can pick up their phones at the end of the day. Repetitive cell confiscations will warrant greater consequences. Thank you for supporting your child's learning.

Families: please do not text or call your child during the school day. If there is an emergency or you need to get a message to your child, please call the office and we will get that message to the student or bring that student up to call you. This method has worked for over 100 years and still works today. In fact, it is more reliable than a text. Thank you for working with us to make class time more productive and less stressful for students.

Scent Free Zone

This is a reminder that San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District policy, as set by the Board of Trustees, declares that we are a fragrant-neutral district. As we begin to have our drama performances and other site-based activities and meetings, please take care to follow the policies below for the sake of the students and members of our community who are highly allergic to fragrances and scents.

The SLVUSD Board of Trustees adopted a California School Board Association policy to make all district classrooms and offices fragrant neutral. SLVHS has parents, students, and community members with respiratory issues who can have negative reactions to fragrances. Please take care to follow the policy while on campus.

Staff and students shall refrain from bringing furred or feathered animals, stuffed toys that may collect dust mites, scented candles, incense or air fresheners and from using perfume or cologne, scented hair spray, nail polish or nail polish remover that are not fragrance-free in classrooms or other enclosed areas or buildings.

Community

The Community Opportunity Link is provided as a courtesy for parents and students by the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District to receive information of current local events and other student opportunities. These opportunities range from scouting, sports, arts/drama, local community events, as well as other parent resources.

In an effort to reduce paper, flyers will not be sent home to students; all approved flyers will be posted to this District-created website.

Starting today...I'm walking away from the drama and the people who always seem to create it.
