From the 10th Grade Counselor-January 16th

HI all-

Second semester is officially underway and we are off running! I have enjoyed seeing almost all of you (sophomores, not parents) this week. Just wanted to reach out to you all with a few updates:

Course Selections. Students came in their English classes to select their initial class selections for junior year.  Students left class with a blue form that has their initial selections on it. Please discuss this with parents. I will then be holding follow up individual meetings with students, and parents are definitely invited, in February and March. More info to come.

First Semester Grades. Report cards will be sent out this week. Please remember that if there were any D or F's earned, I will be recommending summer school.

AP Informational Night Jan 29th at 6:30pm MPR. This is primarily for parents.  If you are interested in learning more about what AP classes please attend the AP Informational Night. We will hear from a panel of AP Teachers about their own classes and an overview of how AP classes work.

AP Lunch Meetings. All students who are interested in taking an AP must attend the lunch meeting regarding that AP. Most students picked up a calendar during my presentations. I have attached an additional calendar to this email for your convenience.

CTE Off campus classes 2020-2021. Sophomores found out about opportunities for them to take CTE classes at other high schools or other locations. Most of these classes have limited enrollment (5 SLV students per class). Students who take these classes must have transportation covered, meet grade eligibility and turn in a contract signed by student and parent to me. I will have a meeting on February 7th at lunch in the MPR to talk about the opportunities and pass out contracts to students. I have attached an informational sheet about these classes and our own on campus CTE classes.

As I told each of the classes I met with, this is an exciting time for students to plan the second half of high school and focus on their interests, passions, possible college and career options. I'm excited to help with this process.
