Principal’s Message
from Jeff Calden
New Schedule
Thanks to everyone for being so on top of everything with the new schedule. We had 91% of students access our Monday Special Classes. Make sure to check in next Monday for new information, activities, and assignments that count for your Monday work. The newer, shorter blocks and afternoon opportunities also seem to be working out well and the feedback I am getting is positive. Keep pushing through. Know that you are being educated and you are preparing yourself for whatever comes next for you in your education or your life.
Not everybody can say that right now. You have the opportunity to come out the other side of this ready to move forward once the world starts to get back to normal.
Have a great weekend.
Congratulations to SLVHS Sophomore Marco Evans for Qualifying for State Science and Engineering Fair
Marco Evans participated in this year’s Santa Cruz County Science and Engineering Fair and qualified for the California Science and Engineering Fair for his project titled: Application of Vacuum Panels as Insulation. Thanks to Jennifer McRae, Science Coordinator at the Santa Cruz COE, for organizing this Virtual Science Fair so that students could still participate after all their hard work on these projects. Way to go, Marco!
Did You Leave Things You Need in Your PE Locker?
We will have another day for students to get things left in PE or Swim lockers next Wednesday, April 22nd.
A sign-up sheet will be sent out on Monday the 19th.

Exam Format
* Most exams will have one or two free-response questions, and each question will be timed separately.
* Students will need to write and submit their responses within the allotted time for each question.
* Students will be able to take exams on any device they have access to—computer, tablet, or smartphone. They'll be able to type and upload their responses or write responses
by hand and submit a photo via their cell phones.
* For most subjects the exams will be 45 minutes long, plus an additional 5 minutes for uploading. Students will need to access the online testing system 30 minutes early to get set up.
* Certain courses—Art and Design: 2D, Art and Design: 3D, and Computer Science Principles , will use portfolio submissions and will not have a separate online exam. All deadlines
for these submissions have been extended to May 26, 2020, 11:59 p.m. ET. Teachers and students may receive separate course-specific communications.
* Students taking world language and culture exams will complete two spoken tasks consistent with free-response questions 3 and 4 on the current AP Exam. Written responses
will not be required. We'll provide additional details in the coming weeks to help students prepare. *
* Tips for testing on specific devices will be available in late April.
