SLVUSD School Closure: 8/24/20 - 9/8/20

Dear SLV Family and Friends,

I hope this finds you and your loved ones safe. By now, all of the SLV students and staff have been impacted by the CZU Lightening Fire that continues to threaten multiple communities in our county. It is with a heavy heart that we watch, while our beautiful valley and neighborhoods are threatened or destroyed by fire.

Due to the current fire and evacuation conditions, all SLVUSD schools will be closed until after Labor Day weekend, Tuesday, September 8, 2020. As we move into the next two weeks, we will monitor the situation with the fire, access to the valley, and the cleanup process to determine if we can resume online instruction for students in SLV.

As displaced families struggle to relocate to temporary locations and to seek shelter, it is impossible for students and staff to focus on teaching and learning. We will resume our online instruction when appropriate, but first we will all need to focus on our family, and acknowledge this loss of home and security that we are all experiencing.

Our most positive and hopeful wishes go out to all of you that your family and home are safe. In SLV we talk a great deal about “SLV Strong.” Once again, we are being called upon to put that sense of inner strength, love of community, and grit to the test. Please help if you can and know that we are all in this together and we will survive it as a community.

Be well and stay safe - Laurie
