Principal’s Message

Next Week is a Regular Week: Monday Special / O / E/ O / E

1st Grading Period Ends Next Friday, October 30th

The first Grading Period ends next Friday, October 30th.

This will be the only progress report of this shortened first semester, as we are already halfway through.

We have been in school six weeks and have six weeks left of school (not counting Thanksgiving Break) before Final Exams.

Because of the nature of this school year, this first grading period will not establish eligibility for extracurricular activities such as Drama or Athletics. The semester grade in December will determine eligibility for any extracurricular activities taking place after we return from Winter Break.

This grading period will be a wakeup call for many students who have not been regularly attending classes or completing assignments.

The final grades in December count as your 1st semester grades for this school year. Classes not passed must be made up in order to graduate. The good news is that you have plenty of time to get your grades where they need be. And you have time after lunch in the afternoon blocks to work with your teachers to help you do that. And you have time on Mondays and on Friday afternoons to get work done. If you are getting invitations to come to afternoon block support, it means your teacher is concerned about your grade. If you aren't going, you are wasting an opportunity to avoid a tremendous amount of work in your future when you have to repeat the entire class - or several classes - in summer school and/or during the year. You also have time on Mondays and on Friday afternoons to get work done. I 

We know this has been a strange and incredibly difficult start to a school year. For some, much harder than others. But it's time to get to work. Do everything you can the next six weeks to finish up the semester with the grades you want and/or need.

Ask for help. Your teachers are there for you. As are your counselors. And me... although I can't help you with math. I was an English teacher. There are a lot of people in your corner who will help you get this done. You just have to be one of them.

SLVHS Class of 2021 Senior Sunrise Tailgate!

Roaring Camp Railroad Main Parking Lot, 5401 Graham Hill Rd, Felton

Please join your classmates for our Senior Sunrise event!  Here's the important info:

Only current SLVHS Seniors may attend.

Seniors will be given a delicious "Breakfast in a Bag" as they enter the parking lot.

Drivers must follow the directions of staff for parking. There will be empty spaces on all sides of each vehicle to maintain social distancing. 

Masks must be worn unless actively eating or drinking.

Students must remain in, on, or right next to (chairs are OK) the vehicle they arrived in.  

It is REALLY important that everyone follows the rules and the directions of staff; we don't want to risk not being able to have other events this year!

So that we can prepare enough Breakfast Bags, seniors MUST RSVP by Friday, Oct. 23 in order to attend this event (That's TODAY!!!)

College and Career Week is Next Week

Monday Special this coming Monday, October 26th

This coming Monday there will be three assignments for your Monday Special

• In Mr. Calden's folder, you will be completing an assignment in the area of Digital Citizenship
• In Mrs. Hackett's folder, you will be completing an assignment in the area of Social/Emotional Health
• In your Counselor's folder, you will be doing an assignment in Naviance

Next Week's Schedule for SLV High School: October 26th - 30th

• Each Teacher has six open blocks to work with each week
• These blocks are part of the official school day for teachers and for assigned students
• The Departments listed in each block have preference to assign students during that block
• Teachers can assign students for any block  
•       If there is a conflict, the students will know to go to the block that "owns" that period
• Students may be assigned to get help for low grades, missing work, missing classes, working on a specific assignment, as well as enrichment
• Large groups or entire classes can be pulled if the teacher needs to work with a certain group
• Students can self-assign to get help by contacting the teacher(s) they would like to meet with and setting up a time that works for student and teacher

When needed, students will be assigned to come to one or more afternoon support blocks each week.  Some days or weeks, students may not be assigned any sessions, but may still contact a teacher to schedule a drop-in time if they have questions or need some help. These blocks are an extension of a student's time in that teacher's class.  If needed, it is part of that class and whether or not you show up could affect your grade positively or negatively.

The Claw newspaper is publishing online issues every two weeks.
