Library Pickup Hours
If you need to pick up books or supplies at the SLVHS Library the schedule is now:
Mondays: 7:30 to 2:00
Wednesdays: 7:30 to 11:15
Fridays: 10:30 to 2:00
Sex Ed will take place in PE Course 1 classes beginning Next Week
We are pleased to inform you that students will have the opportunity to participate in the Teen Talk High School course in their Physical Education Course 1 class beginning on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021. Teen Talk High School is a comprehensive sexuality education program developed by trained professionals in the field of sexuality education at Health Connected (www.health-connected.org) Teen Talk High School is a comprehensive sexuality education course, designed to provide an open forum for teenagers to ask questions and get medically-based, unbiased, and accurate information. Teen Talk High School complies with California Education Codes 51930-51939 (California Healthy Youth Act of 2015) and meets the California Health Education Content Standards under “Growth, Development and Sexual Health.”
Teen Talk High School covers the following topics: Values Clarification, Sexual and Reproductive Anatomy, Abstinence/Not Having Sex, Healthy Relationships, Birth Control, including a condom demonstration, Pregnancy Options, Sexually Transmitted Infections, including HIV, Sexual Safety, Consent, and the Law, Sexual Identity & Gender, Sex in the Media, Communication and Decision-Making, and Parent/Guardian Communication.
BE PREPARED FOR A HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT WHICH INVOLVES YOUR CHILD DISCUSSING THESE ISSUES WITH YOU.
A pre/post-assessment will be administered at the beginning and end of the course. The assessment covers sexual health knowledge that will be covered during the course as well as questions about student comfort and confidence in communicating about sexual health topics with peers, partners, and trusted adults. You can examine instructional materials, including assessments, at the school office. If you have questions, please see your child’s teacher or principal. State law allows you to remove your student from any portion of a comprehensive sexual health education course.
If you do not want your student to participate in this sexual health course, please email your student’s Physical Education teacher or the School Principal before Tuesday, February 2nd.
The goal of a comprehensive sexual health education program is to help students learn the facts and to make good decisions now, and later in life.

In our SLVHS Artist Spotlight feature, we will showcase the work of one of our amazing SLV High School Artists.

2021 Rotary Speech Contest is Coming in March - Sign up NOW!
SLVHS students will have a chance to compete in the Annual Youth Speech Contest put on by the Rotary Club of San Lorenzo Valley.
Contest is open to all SLVHS students and will be held at 6:15 pm on Thursday, March 25th via Zoom. Complete details are on the flyer attached to this email.
The students who finish in the top three will win prizes of $200, $100, and $50.

The San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club chose the topic: “ROTARY OPENS OPPORTUNITIES” as the theme for 2020-2021 Rotary Speech Contest. Students should consider the question, how do the values of self-improvement, community involvement, and service “Open Opportunities” for all?
Each participating student may choose any topic of interest, as long as the content of the speech relates to the 2021 theme, “ROTARY OPENS OPPORTUNITIES” and includes a reference to at least one principle of The 4-Way Test. Use of this theme in the speech should be clear and unmistakable. The speech must be the original work of the student.
Contestants are required to inform the SLVHS Principal, Jeff Calden of intent to participate and provide him with the information on the attached flyer at: [email protected] by Friday, 2/26/21.
Contestants will submit a VIDEO that contains a 3 to 4 minute speech on the theme, “Rotary Opens Opportunities”.
Students may use a phone, tablet, laptop, or other device to record the video. The recorded video speech will be emailed to Superintendent Laurie Bruton at [email protected] by Friday, March 5, 2021. Speech contest judging will be done in advance of the Rotary meeting on 3/25/21.
Contestants will be asked to join the SLV Rotary Meeting on Thursday, March 25, 2021. Videos will be shown at the meeting and winners announced. Each student will be asked to introduce themselves and share their interests and future plans
Skateboards and Sweatshirts Donated for Students Who Lost their Home in the CZU Fires
The Hope Church will be generously gifting brand new skateboards and sweatshirts to anyone student who lost their homes during the CZU fires at an event taking place on Saturday, February 6th at the Tree House Cafe in Boulder Creek.

What to do in a Mental Health Crisis
If you are thinking about harming yourself or attempting suicide, tell someone who can help right away: Call your doctor’s office, 911 for emergency services, or go to the nearest hospital emergency room. Ask a family member or friend to help you make these calls or take you to the hospital. If You Have a Family Member or Friend in a Crisis: If you have a family member or friend who is suicidal, do not leave him or her alone. Try to get the person to seek help immediately from an emergency room, physician, or mental health professional. Take seriously any comments about suicide or wishing to die.
Even if you do not believe your family member or friend will actually attempt suicide, the person is clearly in distress and can benefit from your help in receiving mental health treatment. The San Lorenzo Valley High School yearbook is up and running and is for sale for the next two months for $75.
