Dear SLV Supporters,
We are writing on behalf of the 2021 Grad Night Committee, a volunteer group of parents of San Lorenzo Valley High School and Coast Redwood High seniors. For 36 years, parents have put on elaborate, creative Grad Night events that gave seniors a memorable, safe, sober and fun environment the night after graduation.
This is normally funded by in-person events throughout senior year, but 2020-21 has been unique: COVID prevented in-person fundraisers. Fire damage and evacuations reduced the number of families with time, funds and energy to donate and plan. Our generous local businesses have been hit hard. We have done virtual fundraisers (mask and T-shirt sales, Wild Roots community day, Valentine’s baskets) but can’t do the spring Wine and Chocolate event that usually raises about half of Grad Night funds. Instead, we are reaching out with this request to see what kind of event we can put together with a final fundraising effort of direct donations. The class of 2021 missed out on a year and a half of high school traditions. They endured a pandemic, fire, evacuations, and shutdowns yet they are SLV Strong, we know we can still send our seniors off with hope and joy!
WHAT GRAD NIGHT 2021 MIGHT LOOK LIKE (with masks and safe distancing)
We cannot do the traditional inside event of years past, so we are exploring ways to host an outside event. Trying to hold on to some tradition the actual event is a secret, but with the recent changes in the county tiers two exciting guaranteed events have been presented to us, it will be a steep fundraising ladder to climb though. A fun outdoor event on the school campus or a nearby camp is also being explored. Another option, if funding prevents a big event, would be a drive-through celebration at the school similar to last years.
CURRENT FUND STATUS: With seed funds that the Class of 2020 left us, along with the fundraising we have done so far, we are still $11,000 short of our goal and the ultimate experience for our departing Seniors . We are hopeful that our Valley community can work some amazing magic.
OUR BIG REQUEST – TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DIRECT DONATIONS NOW: We know it is a hard year, but if you can, head to our website this week (www.slvgradnight.com) to donate. If it is more convenient, you can also mail your donation to (P.O. Box 44, Felton CA. 95018). Then we can shift from fundraising to planning, knowing what we can afford. No amount is too small. Our hope is that those who cannot donate will share this letter with friends or family who can.
Visit our online store: Limited edition T-shirts and sweatshirts are available to purchase until March 31st. Check out our popular 2-sided face masks. Stay tuned for additional added merchandise coming soon!
Amazon Smile: Sign up now and Grad Night will receive 0.5% percent of what you spend on eligible Amazon orders.
Volunteer: Your time and talents help, too! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c054dadaf2daaff2-grad
Thank you for considering this request and helping all 170 seniors wrap up their year with positivity!
Sincerely,
The 2021 Grad Night Committee
