First Day of School: Tuesday, August 17th

welcome back

Principal’s Message

from Jeff Calden

Welcome to the 2021-22 School Year.   The staff of San Lorenzo Valley High School is so excited for our students to show up for the first day of classes on Tuesday, August 17th.

It has been a long time since we had our full student body attend regular school days in full classrooms. We are taking precautions to keep everybody safe and we look forward to an amazing year.

SLVHS Student Handbook

The SLVHS Student Handbook is attached to this email and available at this link: SLVHS Student Handbook

Parents and Students should review the handbook in order to be aware of the rules, policies, and important information to know about SLVHS.

Thank you in advance for knowing and understanding the information in the handbook.

Live School and COVID

We will start the school year in a full live mode. Everyone on campus - staff, students, visitors - will be required to wear a mask when inside a school building.

Masks will be optional when you are outside or in a room by yourself. By wearing masks indoors, students and adults who are exposed to COVID in a classroom do not have to quarantine. Gators and bandanas are not masks and do not protect you and others in the ways that an actual mask does. We will have masks for any student who needs to use one rather than a gator or bandana.

There is no rule regarding vaccination at school for students or staff.

However, adult volunteers working with students must be vaccinated in order to do so. This does not apply to adults coming as a parent or family member to a meeting with staff, as part of a parent booster club meeting, or as a spectator at an event. This only applies to someone working with or around students in a voluntary capacity. This applies to adults volunteering in a classroom, a field trip, a sporting event, or school activity where students are present.

Each classroom will be cleaned before the next school day.

Use of SLV Campus Facilities

It has been a while, but now that live school is starting up again, there will be no public use of the facilities from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm on School Days.

This is for all facilities, including the pool, the tennis courts, the track and field, the baseball fields, and basketball courts.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our campus safe.

freshman orientation

Freshman Cougar Day will be Monday, August 16th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm

Freshman Link Crew Orientation will be Monday August 16th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

Freshman Cougar Day and Link Crew Orientation

This is the day where freshmen meet their Link Crew leaders, learn about the school, get their textbooks, chromebooks, chargers, and class schedules.

Freshmen can come at any time between 11 am and 1 pm to get what they need, then return at 1:00 pm for Link Crew Orientation.

This orientation will give freshmen a chance to tour the school, find their classrooms, and meet some upperclassmen who will be mentors for them throughout the year.

Link Crew is a program designed to help freshmen alleviate stress or concerns about high school, be comfortable on campus, make some new friends, and have some fun - all before the first day of school.  Link Crew does not end when school starts.  It's a year-long program that creates fun activities and opportunities for our freshmen.

It is a similar program to WEB, which many of our freshmen were a part of in Middle School.

Those who cannot make it can pick up their schedules before school on Tuesday - the first day of school.

Chromebook Loaner Policy

Students without a device instead may “check out” a device from the school district for the entire year.

Much like the textbooks students check out, they can go home with the student each night to be used for homework, and the student is responsible for returning the chromebook at the end of the year.

Students who wish to check out a loaner Chromebook for the year may do so during Cougar Day or at the SLVHS Library.
