Principal’s Message

from Jeff Calden

It has been SO WONDERFUL to have our students back at school live this week. While there are some differences we still have to deal with, it sure felt like real, normal school again.

Big thanks out to our teachers and staff, our families, our community, and especially these students for making this week so special. SLV Strong in Action!

picture retake day!

School Picture and ID Card Makeups

Makeup School Pictures / ID Cards will be on Monday, August 30 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at room E4.

Live School and COVID

We will start the school year in a full live mode. Everyone on campus - staff, students, visitors - will be required to wear a mask when inside a school building.

Masks will be optional but are recommended when you are outside around others. Gaiters and bandanas are not masks and do not protect you and others in the ways that an actual mask does. We will have masks for any student who needs to use one rather than a gaiter or bandana.

There is no rule regarding vaccination at school for students or staff.

However, adult volunteers working with students must be vaccinated in order to do so. This does not apply to adults coming as a parent or family member to a meeting with staff, as part of a parent booster club meeting, or as a spectator at an event. This only applies to someone working with or around students in a voluntary capacity. This applies to adults volunteering in a classroom, a field trip, a sporting event, or school activity where students are present.

Each classroom will be cleaned before the next school day.

Use of SLV Campus Facilities

It has been a while, but now that live school is starting up again, there will be no public use of the facilities from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm on School Days.

This is for all facilities, including the pool, the tennis courts, the track and field, the baseball fields, and basketball courts.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our campus safe.

athletics

SLV Athletic Boosters Need Your Support!

San Lorenzo Valley Athletic Boosters are a group of dedicated enthusiasts of SLV High School sports who donate their time and resources to guide the financial subsidizing of sports programs at SLVHS, keeping the sports program at SLVHS low cost to players.

BINGO is Back!

Bingo is Booster's ongoing fundraiser, and generates over $90,000 per year to our athletic programs and  facilities, and is the main source of revenue for Boosters.

At the heart of this important fundraiser is the solid group of “core” volunteers, many of  whom are parents of former SLV students who have stayed on out of love and loyalty to  our sports programs. Also vital to the operation are the four volunteers from the various  sports who show up every Monday night to do their part to support their athletes. Based  on research, without bingo, families would spend $250.00 - $1500.00 per child, per sport.  SLVHS is the ONLY school in Santa Cruz County and beyond not using a ‘pay to play’ system to fund sports, primarily because of the efforts of the Bingo Volunteers.

Beyond supporting individual teams at SLVHS, Boosters has also awarded over $40,000 in awards to graduating senior athletes.  The commitment to support our athletes through all four years of high school,  with a “boost” into college is an important goal of the groups’ focus.

HOW CAN YOU HELP? If your child is on a team at SLV, please sign up to volunteer to work Bingo on the dates your child's team is slated to host volunteers. Additionally, you can bring in even more money for your child's team by being a "Core" member, where you work once a month at the weekly Bingo game (located at Portuguese Hall in Santa Cruz). The more "Core" members a team has, the more money each team receives. If you are interested in being a core parent, please contact Athletic Director Chris Coulson at [email protected]

Chromebook Loaner Policy

Students without a device instead may “check out” a device from the school district for the entire year.

Much like the textbooks students check out, they can go home with the student each night to be used for homework, and the student is responsible for returning the chromebook at the end of the year.

Students who wish to check out a loaner Chromebook for the year may do so during Cougar Day or at the SLVHS Library.
